Daily maintenance of knife holder

2026-09-10

The tool holder is the core precision component that connects the machine tool and the cutting tool in CNC machining. Daily maintenance directly determines the machining accuracy, tool life, and equipment stability. Proper basic maintenance can effectively avoid common faults such as tool change jamming, positioning deviation, and tool vibration.

1、 Daily after shift: cleaning and basic inspection

Thoroughly clean: After processing, wipe the surface of the tool holder with a soft cloth, focusing on cleaning the key parts such as the tool holder positioning surface, clamping groove, transmission pin, locking bolt, etc. of iron filings, oil stains, and cutting fluid residues, to avoid hard impurities getting stuck in the bite area and affecting the positioning accuracy.

Rust prevention treatment: If the tool holder is not used for a long time, all cutting fluid residues should be wiped dry, a thin layer of rust prevention oil should be applied to the metal surface, and stored in a dry and ventilated tool cabinet to avoid collision and rust.

Appearance inspection: Check the tool holder clamping groove and positioning surface for any bumps, scratches, or excessive wear. If there is obvious damage, it should be replaced in a timely manner to avoid affecting the tool clamping accuracy.

2、 Weekly: Lubrication and fastening

Standardized lubrication: According to the equipment manual requirements, add special lubricating grease to the tool seat locking mechanism and transmission parts to avoid wear caused by dry friction; Pay attention to controlling the oil level, too much can easily adsorb iron filings, and too little can result in insufficient lubrication.

Bolt tightening: Check the tightening status of the mounting bolts of the tool holder and the locking nuts of the tool. Use a torque wrench to tighten according to the standard torque value to avoid excessive torque causing thread slippage, or insufficient torque causing the tool holder to loosen or vibrate during machining.

Sealing inspection: For power tool holders with central water outlet, check whether the sealing O-ring is intact and whether the water outlet hole is blocked to prevent cutting fluid from penetrating into the interior and damaging the bearings and gears.

3、 Usage standard: Avoid human damage

Overloading is strictly prohibited: Do not use cutting parameters that exceed the rated speed and torque of the tool holder, avoid violent tool impact, overweight cutting, and prevent damage to internal transmission components due to overload.

Coolant specification: When using the power tool holder, the coolant must be turned on first before starting the machining. Failure to turn on the coolant will cause rapid wear of the internal oil seal; At the same time, the coolant needs to be equipped with a filtering device to avoid impurities blocking the water outlet.

New tool holder running in: Before the first use of the new tool holder, it should be run in at 70% of the rated speed for 1 hour without load to complete the running in, and then put into formal processing, which can extend the service life.

4、 Regular calibration: ensuring machining accuracy

Check the repeated positioning accuracy and tool runout value of the tool holder every month. If the deviation exceeds the allowable range, calibrate or replace worn parts in a timely manner to avoid dimensional deviations in batch processing.
